ARTIST: Gary Fox
Early in his artistic career, Gary's exceptional talent for portraiture gained significant recognition in South Africa. In 1994, Gary was commissioned to paint a portrait of Nelson Mandela to commemorate his inauguration as President of South Africa. The painting depicts Mandela in 1992, during his appointment as Chancellor of the University of the North (now the University of Limpopo). The painting was displayed in the Union Buildings in Pretoria for many years, and is now hanging in the official Nelson Mandela Museum. Gary was also commissioned by the government of Swaziland to paint a portrait of His Majesty King Mswati III in 1993. Over the years, Fox has completed numerous portrait commissions, establishing a reputation for his distinctive and highly regarded style.
